During a WSJ event, OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar let slip the idea of federal guarantees for investments in AI infrastructure, make financing the current infrastructure buildout easier.
The comment sparked immediate backlash, including a direct rebuttal from the White House, with Crypto Czar David Sacks saying there will be ‘no federal bailout’ for AI.
Friar and Open AI CEO Sam Altman have both since walked back the comments.
POLICY
Senators Hawley (R-MO) and Warner (D-VA) introduced the AI-Related Job Impacts Clarity Act, requiring major companies and federal agencies to report AI related layoffs.
Microsoft announced they had secured licenses to export the equivalent of over 60,000 additional Nvidia chips to the UAE, causing Nvidia’s stock price to jump 2%.
Trump Admin will block Nvidia’s sale of its ‘scaled down’ B30A chips to China.
FDA advisors have cautioned against the hasty adoption of generative AI in mental health devices -- so called ‘therapy bots.’

Nvidia’s Jensen Huang says China will win the AI race.
Chinese model developer Moonshot released Kimi K2 Thinking, an open-source model which claims to beat ChatGPT on some benchmarks. Analysis here.
Amazon sent a cease-and-desist letter to Perplexity, asking the startup to remove the Amazon website from their AI-enabled browser.
Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman believes that only biological beings can be conscious.
